About

MRKK Woodworks

Hi, my name is Markus Krumins and I have based myself In York. I work with wood and have crafted many different types of pieces. I started to explore the medium in Manchester where I had a small studio. This is where a passion for the craft began, Once I built up some experience doing a few furniture pieces I decided to reinforce my skills by taking a furniture course at the Lyme Regis boat building academy. Afterwards I began to work for Charlie Whinney in the Lake district where I learnt steam bending techniques and took part in making furniture pieces and large architectual sculptures. After 2 and half lovely years playing in the forests and bending scarily large pieces of timber I have set up my own workshop in York.

Wood philosophy:
I have tried my hand in many types of wood work. from reclaimed pieces of floor boards, cleft wood, hand carving to mdf with paint and veneers. There a many pros and cons to each way of working and I will always lean to the most sustainable and ethical way of working for your project. I try and find a balance within the work.

I like to work with the organic lines that come from the natural grain or waney edge of the board. But I have quite a mathematical mind and enjoy a complex puzzle. My individual work will normally reflect and explore these ideas.

So if you want to enquire about a piece, commission one or a fellow artist/woodworker and want to collaborate then give a me a bell on the contact form.
